Bravo, Dude
I had the great pleasure of meeting and watching Gustavo Dudamel work with the San Francisco Symphony last week. Believe the hype. He is the most extraordinary conducting talent I have ever seen. It’s just the perfect combination of everything that makes a conductor good, in perfect balance. And he gets the orchestra to play out of their minds. I’m also glad that he’s a phenom. We need more of those in the orchestra biz. After the open rehearsal, about fifty people lined up for autographs at the edge of the stage, and when he had to leave before signing all of them, they cheered anyway. I’ve really never seen this for a conductor. Personally, he’s really funny, gracious, and seems to be able to hang with anyone. I think some exciting times are in store in LA.
